Today I had the privilege of catching up with one of our previous students, Tammy Wright.

Tammy completed her Certificate 3 and 4 about eight months ago at Inspire Success Academy of Fitness and immediately set up her own business from home called 21 Health and Fitness.

John Inspire:
Hi Tammy, thank you for spending some time with me today

Tammy:
No problem at all John, thanks for coming to see me

John Inspire:
It’s great to see you doing so well and you obviously stay fit yourself, but what went through your mind when you first thought of becoming a Personal Trainer?

Tammy:
Well actually I was really unsure because I had no confidence in learning in a classroom again (I’m 35 years old now) so it’s been a few years.
Hell! I had enough trouble attending school as it was, there was so much sport to play! (Tammy played State Level Hockey). But when you put me onto the previous student who had the same fears as me and completed the course (Sally McKinnon), she told me how you guys put her at ease and helped with the learning side of things. I was really happy with my decision and was really exited about becoming a trainer. I needed a new challenge after having three kids and reaching as high as I could in retail (becoming Regional Manager at Pumpkin Patch). I felt like I was ‘Just Mum’, so I wanted to contribute more to people’s lives in a more fulfilling way. I always wanted to be involved with sport and fitness so it seemed like a natural careers choice.

John Inspire:
So after you finished the course you set up ‘21 Health and Fitness’?

Tammy:
Yes, I wanted to work from home so I could have the flexibility to look after my kids and have more time with my Husband.

John Inspire:
Did you have any doubts it would work once you had made your decision?

Tammy:
None whatsoever! I’ve seen a lot of trainers who I thought were terrible and when I saw them I thought ‘Well I can definitely do better than them.’
I had so much confidence after the course and with the ‘You Can Do It!’ attitude that you instil in to us, that it seemed a ‘No Brainer’.
My mind-set was ‘get the first client, do a great job and I’ll get word of mouth’. And it worked! My first client Amber, became my advert and I haven’t had to advertise at all!

John Inspire:
That’s fantastic Tammy! So what do you enjoy most about your new career?

Tammy:
Training my clients at 5am and seeing them transform during my sessions from dragging their feet to really loving it. Also helping people achieve their goals, it is fantastic to see their improvement. For example, I’m training someone to run the half marathon and she has never run before!

John Inspire:
What does the future hold for you ?

Tammy:
Well I intend to own a full spa with training and nutrition, like a retreat.

John Inspire:
And I’m sure you’ll make it into a fantastic success. Finally, how did the team at Inspire Success Academy of Fitness help you and what did you get out of the course?

Tammy:
Well you guys were great! No seriously, the ongoing help, the motivation (especially the bit about Yankers, Mountaineers and Fliers!)

John Inspire:
Thank you for your time today, it was a pleasure talking to you Tammy.
