Running is a fantastic way to improve your cardiovascular fitness and is the cheapest and easiest way to burn off fat.
Firstly, make sure you buy some good running shoes. Secondly, it is a good idea to get someone to check your running posture and technique.
Running will increase your heart rate over a small distance and keep it sustained over a long distance. It will build up your core strength, your leg strength and your cardio pulmonary (heart and lungs) fitness. All while burning fat.
Things to remember:
Most importantly, start out slow and at your own pace. You don’t want an injury!
Increase distance slowly and set manageable goals. eg. 1km in one week, 2km in 2 weeks, 3km in 3 weeks etc, you will be up to 10km in 10 weeks.
Stay hydrated. Electrolytes are better than water in this case.
Perhaps you will want to enter a park run 5km or set your goals a bit higher for something like a half marathon. Maybe even one day a full marathon.
The aim should be to enjoy running, not think of it as a chore. The more you enjoy it, the more you will want to do and get to where you want to be quicker…. Pardon the pun 🙂
